Our Puppy Training & Development Program
At BF Corgi, we believe the foundation for a happy, well-adjusted Corgi begins in the first few weeks of life. That’s why we go above and beyond in our early training and development program to give every puppy the best possible start. Our structured approach helps ensure your puppy is confident, adaptable, and ready to integrate seamlessly into your home.
Here’s a breakdown of the specialized training and enrichment our puppies receive:
Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS)
Starting at just 3 days old and continuing through the first two weeks, we use Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS) exercises developed by the U.S. military. These gentle handling techniques help improve the puppy’s stress tolerance, cardiovascular health, and immune system. Puppies who receive ENS often grow into calmer, more resilient adults.
Sensory Training & Exposure
Between 3–8 weeks of age, we introduce puppies to a wide range of textures, surfaces, smells, and gentle handling. This sensory enrichment helps build their curiosity and comfort with new experiences. From walking on different surfaces (grass, carpet, tile) to interacting with age-appropriate toys and sounds, we work to create well-rounded, confident pups.
Sound Desensitization
To help prevent sound sensitivities later in life, we gradually expose puppies to common household and environmental noises like vacuums, doorbells, thunderstorms, and children playing. These sounds are introduced at low volumes during early development and gradually increased as the puppies grow. This helps them remain calm and unbothered in noisy environments.
Socialization
Proper socialization is key to raising a balanced dog. Our puppies are exposed to people of all ages, including children, and are gently introduced to other friendly adult dogs. They learn appropriate play, how to read social cues, and develop confidence around humans and animals alike. Positive interactions during this critical stage shape how they relate to the world as adults.
Foundational Training
We begin foundational training around 3 weeks old with gentle name recognition, following humans, and introduction to basic commands such as “sit” and “come.” By the time your puppy goes home, they’ll have the groundwork laid for future training and will be eager to learn more with their new family.
Litter Box Training
Litter box training starts around 3 weeks of age and helps puppies develop good hygiene habits early on. This method teaches puppies to use a designated potty area, which speeds up housebreaking and minimizes indoor accidents. It also reinforces the idea of keeping their sleeping space clean.
Crate & Kennel Introduction
We begin crate training gradually, using positive reinforcement to help puppies associate the crate with calm and safety. Short sessions are introduced in a group setting first, then individually, so that by the time they go home, they are comfortable spending time in a crate for naps or bedtime.
Kennel Training
In addition to individual crates, we also work on kennel training to get puppies used to being housed securely for short periods of time. This teaches patience, quiet time, and helps prevent separation anxiety when transitioning to new homes.
Basic Manners
From an early age, we reinforce polite behavior like sitting for attention, no jumping, and waiting patiently for food. These small habits form the foundation of a well-mannered adult dog. Our goal is to send home a puppy who already understands the basics of respectful behavior.
We are proud to offer more than just beautiful puppies — we raise companions who are prepared for life. With a strong start in training, our Corgis grow into calm, confident, and joyful family members who are ready to thrive in their forever homes.
